G3C process enables true circular economy for end
G3C technology is the third generation of tire conversion technologies. In addition to recovering, it also upgrades carbon black built into tires. The notion of "in-rubber performance shift" limiting application of traditional pyrolysis rCB is discussed. Advantages of two-stage rCB production process, where the stage one is a low-temperature pyrolysis and stage two is a G3C upgrading system is compared to a single stage G3C system.
Recent results of testing G3C rCB in non-tire and tire rubber formulations and G3C rCB reinforcing qualities are described. G3C technology commercialization efforts, including building G3C pilot and commercial systems, are discussed. The article illustrates that G3C technology enables a true circular economy for tires by allowing the augmentation or replacement of virgin carbon black in all parts of the tire, including the tread.
