Several hospitalized following Monroe Turnpike crash

MONROE, CT — Several people were taken to the hospital for treatment of, what police believe to be, non-life-threatening injuries following a two-vehicle-crash at the intersection of Church Street and Monroe Turnpike (Route 111) Wednesday morning.

At approximately 7:56 a.m., police said a 37-year-old Shelton woman was heading south on Route 111 in a Ford Explorer, when an 18-year-old Monroe woman in a Honda CRV struck her vehicle, while attempting to turn left from Church Street.

Police determined the Monroe driver was at fault for allegedly disobeying a stop sign, and issued an infraction.

Monroe Volunteer Emergency Medical Service personnel treated those involved in the crash for injuries at the scene, including a juvenile passenger who was in the Honda CRV, according to police.

Town firefighters also responded to the call.

A 33-year-old Bridgeport man was pulling out of a driveway on Old Tannery Road Wednesday afternoon, when his Toyota Corolla struck a Toyota RAV4 heading south on Route 110, police said.

Police determined the driver of the Corolla was at fault for the accident and issued infractions for operating an unregistered motor vehicle, failure to grant the right of way and operating a motor vehicle without a license.

The other driver, a 70-year-old Shelton woman, was taken to Griffin Hospital by Monroe EMS for treatment of possible injuries.

Both damaged vehicles were towed.

Firefighters also responded to the call, which came in around 1:39 p.m., near Whitney Farms Golf Course.

A forklift operator was making a delivery on Old Coach Road Tuesday afternoon, when the forklift slid due to the road conditions and uneven ground and fell onto its side, in the middle of the street.

Police said the forklift operator wore the proper safety equipment and was not injured. The accident occurred around 1:15 p.m.

A 32-year-old Newtown woman lost control of her Subaru Forester on a curve, while heading south on Guinea Road Tuesday morning, before striking a guardrail and a mailbox, according to police.

She was issued a verbal warning for traveling too fast for conditions and her vehicle was towed.

The crash occurred in the 190-block of the street around 8:13 a.m.
