How To Unlock The Basement Door In Hello Neighbor 2

Jan 02, 2024Jan 02, 2024

Something strange is going on, and it's in that basement.

Hello Neighbor 2, the sequel to the popular mystery action game, is a tense stealth puzzle game that takes you behind enemy lines. No longer do you play as a young child living across the street. Now you are as a concerned news reporter, and it's your duty to sneakily investigate your unsavory neighbor's nefarious secrets that must be hiding somewhere in his boarded-up house.

The game is separated into a series of levels, but don't be fooled: Level One is tricky in itself, as the game gives you very few hints. Here's how to make it to the end of the day and unlock the basement door.

The game starts in a wooden barn. Flip the red handle to enter the main area of the barn, and make note of the three cogs you need to find in order to escape. First, take the key and unlock the padlock on the blue door on your left.

Blue Cog

Inside the blue door room you unlocked.

Green Cog

Get the crowbar in the corner of the main room and throw it at the glass display case containing the green cog.

Red Cog

Using the crowbar, remove the red plank by the van, climb the ladder then climb the ledge on the right.

Jump down, place the last cog in the mechanism, and pull the switch the open the door. A cutscene will play out, signaling the end of your tutorial.

Return to the neighbor's house, jump the fence around the back, and enter through the kitchen side door. Avoid the patrolling policeman and check the fridge for the clue to your first puzzle. You'll need to collect four keys to get into the heavily-locked basement, and the first can be found by solving the dollhouse puzzle.

With your crowbar still in your inventory from the tutorial, you can find the first doll behind a red plank in the kitchen:

Circle around to the main lobby and climb the wardrobe against the wall behind the vent. Once you're up there, move the painting out of the way so that you can climb into the vent to retrieve the doll.

The Boy Doll

Go to the painting beneath the stairs and interact with it to slide it out of the way. Next, turn the dials so that the padlock code reads NOT. You'll also find a spare crowbar here.

Place all the dolls onto their respective platforms on the dollhouse in the kitchen, and you'll receive the first key. The correct position correlated with the image on the fridge. Head through the door just off from the kitchen and use it to unlock the first of four padlocks on the basement door.

Start collecting the numbered building blocks strewn around the ground floor to crack the safe and get your second basement key.

Red Block

In the side table, in the corner of the front left-side room.

Green Block

Next to the safe in the back room of the left-side room.

Blue Block

Inside the bathroom toilet.

Orange Block

Inside the fridge, behind a plate

Gather all the blocks and check the flag bunting above the safe. The flag colors correspond to a block, with each one indicating the order in which you type the numbers. The code is 1984.

Grab the key and go unlock that next padlock.

The scissors will cut away the police tape that's barring you from going upstairs. They are in a blue tree house outside.

To get into the tree house, jump twice on the trampoline outside the green-colored house just next to it, and use this leverage to climb onto the roof of the house. Jump onto the low-hanging tree branch, and walk right up to the door of the tree house.

Once inside, you'll have to solve a puzzle to knock the scissors out from their spot on the toy train tracks.

Interact with the drawing of the cardboard gladiator figure to retrieve the figure's missing arm. Place it onto the figure and wind both arms until they are in the same position as they are in the drawing. That will open a little door in the figure's stomach. Inside is the switch needed to change the course of the model train behind you.

Place the switch into the jack on the table, and the next time the train passes through, it will pick up the scissors on its way and bring them straight to you.

Go back into the house and cut the tape in your way. Next, head upstairs to the master bedroom and start the photo puzzle. There is a picture frame here with pieces torn out. Find them and return them to the frame.

First Piece

On the blocked shelf after you cut the police tape away with the scissors.

Second Piece

In the hallway, inside the wooden crate after prying it open with your crowbar.

Third Piece

Inside a pillow on the ground in the kids' room. (Cut open with scissors)

Fourth Piece

Jump up on top of the wardrobe in the master bedroom to get the weight from behind another cobweb. Pick it up and carry it back into the kids' room, dropping it on the metal plate to open the wardrobe.

Placing all the pieces will reveal the heart-shaped lock key in the nearby bookcase.

The last key is the simplest to get. In the master bedroom, find a switch among the boxes and place it in the little handle jack just by the bookcase. Pull the switch, and the bookcase will slide open. You can now grab the battery from a device on your immediate left after cutting away the cobwebs again.

Head back into the kids' room and put the battery into the battery slot by the race-car toy near the bed. Pull the joystick twice: first to send the car under the bed and again to bring it back. When it returns, the final key will be sitting on top of it.

Now that you've unlocked the basement, head down the stairs and grab the newspaper on the table. This will trigger a cutscene, after which you'll be able to pick up a key. Use the key on the padlock to the basement doors just above your head. Another short cutscene will play out, where your character will find and catch a paper airplane that has a message scrawled on it: "Help me."

Follow the trail of paper airplanes on the ground until you see the large, red museum building.

You can also ignore the trail and follow the streetlamps to the same location.

Enter it, pick up the shovel, and one last cutscene will trigger the end of Level One.
