U.K. to review antidumping duties on truck, bus tires from China

Sep 18, 2023Sep 18, 2023

LONDON—The United Kingdom Trade Remedies Authority (TRA) has initiated two transition reviews into antidumping and countervailing measures on truck and bus tires imported from China.

The products to be investigated during this review are "pneumatic rubber tires, new or retreaded, with a load index exceeding 121," the agency announced May 3.

The duties in question were initially imposed by the European Union in 2018 and were later annulled by the European General Court in May 2022.

Amid a legal battle between China and the EU, the U.K. reiterated that it would continue the duties on the Chinese products as the European court's decision did not apply in the U.K.

The recently launched review will now determine whether dumping of imported tires or importation of subsidized tires would be likely to continue or recur if the measures were no longer applied.

Furthermore, the investigation will investigate whether injury to the U.K. industry would be likely to continue or recur if the duties are lifted.

The investigation will cover a period from Jan. 1, 2022, to Dec. 31, 2022.

To assess injury, the TRA also will examine the period from July 1, 2019, Dec. 31, 2021.
